Demand for Nature’s Way Food products has led to the construction of this 9000m ² food packaging facility close to their other Merston building and continues the development of the Drayton Food Park. The production process requires a chilled environment which is provided by heavily insulated panels installed within the shell of the building. Heavy services are suspended from the roof of the main production hall as well as being supported on the roof of the two-storey office block attached to the south. Access for supply of raw materials and the delivery from site of packaged food is via the large external yard and dock levellers.
The ground floor was constructed using large pours with the main production area being laid to falls for drainage.
The superstructure is a multi-span portal frame with hit-and-miss internal columns with the offices constructed as a conventional beam and column structure. With demand continuing to increase, a further extension of the building is currently in design.
