Graduate Building Surveyor in London

AKSWard is looking for a practically-minded and enthusiastic graduate building surveyor to join our team based in the EC2A area of London.

We are a surveying team within a larger structural engineering company with four offices. This helps provide us with a diverse range of projects and also gives us the edge of utilising the in-house expertise the engineers can offer surveyors. We are also in a team working closely with specialist heritage and conservation engineers who work on some fascinating projects.

The ideal candidate needs to be motivated and keen to learn, and ideally looking to achieve Chartered status. We currently have APC candidates at different levels within our team, but whilst we would expect a young surveyor to want to start their APC route relatively soon, we understand that gaining the right level and range of experience first is equally important.

You will be expected to work as part of a team or independently and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ideally the candidate would have at least basic knowledge or appreciation of the following aspects of surveying:

●   Various methods of construction

●   IT skills / modern methods of surveying

●   Defect Investigations (commercial and industrial buildings mostly, but some residential)

●   Contract Administration

●   Specification writing / bespoke schedules of work

●   Refurbishment / design

●   Historic façades and conservation

●   Party Walls – Residential and commercial

●   Licences to alter

●   Dilapidations

●   Surveys generally (scott schedules, schedules of condition, measured, defect, etc)

●   Feasibility studies inc. basic estimating/budgeting skills

●   Building Regs / planning applications / historic building consent

We are particularly strong on construction and defect diagnosis, and Party Walls, but the range of projects and the wide experience we can offer a young surveyor is definitely a strength. The overriding factor for us must be enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a company benefits package. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and we are encouraging every staff member in their personal and professional growth.

AKSWard promotes close collaboration between the teams in our four offices creating opportunity for engagement and experience with our specialist teams across the company.

If you fit the description above and would like to be part of a small and vibrant team, please get in touch by submitting your CV with anticipated exam results (if unknown).
