AKSWard was appointed as civil and structural engineers for two new office buildings located in the Croxley Business Park, near Watford. The recently completed first phase consists of a striking new Grade A office with the second phase expected to start on site soon. Both buildings replace aged and tired offices and along with a new landscaping, add a significantly more pleasing architectural feel to the business park.
AKSWard offered full civil and structural services which included the completion of the drainage strategy and flood risk assessment to support the original planning application as well as the below ground drainage design. Structures wise a three-storey concrete frame and external steel stair cores were designed. A cantilevered scissor stair floats at the back of the atrium, supported from walkways that wrap around the core. In the centre of the building an atrium allows light into the office through a pitched steel framed glazed roof. The entrance of the building is located under a lightweight roof supported off slender feature columns. Wrapping around the roof is steel canopy that cantilevers off the concrete roof slab.
