A three and four storey building providing approximately 160,000ft ² of floor space.
This building was constructed in two phases to provide new facilities for various departments in the University Social Sciences Department including economics, sociology and politics.
The building was awarded BREEAM Excellent status and the design included the use of a rainwater harvesting system, used to feed nonpotable water systems within the building. The internally exposed insitu concrete frame required very precise construction to achieve the quality of finish required by the architect. Storey height glazing fits within a grid of precast concrete on the facade.
The Library part of the building was designed for standard library loading with an area of the ground floor designed for rolling book stacks. Upper floors have been fitted out as offices and seminar rooms.
