The Government of Gibraltar appointed GJB Ltd, a Gibraltar based contractor, to undertake the design and construction for a new marina capable of accommodating 700 boats with lengths of up to 9.0m. The new harbour also provides berthing facilities for superyachts up to 165m long. The construction has been formed within the existing port in an area protected by new concrete caisson units which are slip-formed by a specialist contractor then towed into position before being sunk.
The project included the construction and installation of these new caissons, associated breakwaters, a new access deck, and floating pontoons within the marina to provide the required moorings.
Working closely with AKS Architects & Engineers, AKS Ward were responsible for the civil and structural engineering design of the fixed and non-specialist elements of the works.
