Spitfire Lodge, located in Belmont Road in the heart of Portswood, this development of 73 one and two- bedroom retirement apartments is well located for the retail outlets in the High Street.
A new retirement development in Portswood has been named Spitfire Lodge in honour of World War II aircraft designer and former Portswood resident, RJ Mitchell.
The development itself boasts a number of in-house facilities for residents. Several of the apartments are provided with balconies.
AKSWard provided Structural Design services for the foundations and superstructure of this four-storey residential project following Churchill’s tried and trusted traditional methods of construction with the structure being designed to make efficient use of the loadbearing masonry walls supporting precast floors throughout to give a robust building.
Owing to the poor ground conditions and significant gradients across the site, foundations and retaining walls were piled.
