The structure comprises two teaching blocks linked together by means of a glazed atrium, and has been erected within the grounds of an existing Grade II listed school. Both blocks are constructed in concrete up to second floor level, while the duo-pitched roof structure is framed in steel.
A flat reinforced concrete slab system has been adopted to eliminate the need for unsightly concrete beams and utilise the thermal mass within the building’s service strategy. The roof includes a high-level service walkway and a central light well that provides natural light to the classrooms below.
The library on the ground floor as well as the other teaching spaces, feature exposed concrete soffits and walls with a high-quality finish. A new foul and surface water system has been designed and installed around the new building.
