The new Coulsdon College consists of two large concrete frames connected together via a central atrium hub. The concrete acts as a thermal mass while louvres provide natural ventilation through the building and into the atrium space.
The atrium has a high level glazed roof that allows natural light into the lobby, while timber brise soleils around the perimeter of the building prevent the classrooms from over heating during the day. All these design features combine to give Coulsdon College a BREEAM rating of Very Good.
The construction of the new building was carried out in phases in order to minimize disruption to the campus.
