Kents Hill Campus

Kents Hill Secondary and SEN Schools are nearing completion on site. These steel-framed schools are part of the £27 million campus that includes the neighbouring primary school, also designed by AKS Ward and its CORDE joint venture partners adp and KJ Tait. The images highlight the successes of the project, such as the energy efficient design, multiple outdoor sports facilities as well as a unique link-bridge offering level access to the main school.

It has been a varied and challenging project with a fast-paced construction programme: all three schools and the sports hall were constructed simultaneously and in a sequence different from the original design intent. Critical to the realisation of the schemes was close collaboration among CORDE, client and contracting partners, as well as pooling knowledge and resource across AKS Ward offices in London, Oxford and Birmingham.

We are proud to have been a part of this framework and offer our best wishes to  staff and pupils in their new home due for completion in December 2017.

Country House Innovation Show 2017

AKS Ward is hosting a stand at this year’s Country House Business Innovation Show to be held at the NEC, Birmingham on 8^th and 9^th November. The stand will be manned by Matt Groves, Technical Director in our Hitchin office with support from staff from Hitchin, London and Southampton Offices.

Matt will be speaking in Theatre 5 on the Conservation of Heritage assets on Wednesday 8^th November.

Anthony Ward Installation Dinner

Congratulations to our Emeritus Chairman Anthony Ward on taking up the role of the 41st Master Constructor with the Worshipful Company of Constructors Livery Company on the 4th of October 2017. The Livery Company was founded in 1976 and has over 300 members across all sectors of our industry. It supports Awards and Scholarships in the industry, fundraises for charitable causes and supports the Lord Mayor, Sheriffs and Aldermen of The City in guiding the work of The City Corporation.

Announcement of Retirement of Tony Ward

Our Chairman and founding Director Anthony Ward has decided, after effectively 41 years in Private Consultancy, to retire from his executive role in AKS Ward, with effect from the 1st of August 2017.

He is shortly to take up the role of Master Constructor with the Worshipful Company of Constructors Livery Company, which is entirely charitable, and will engage the majority of his time over the next 15 months.

He will retain his ties with AKS Ward, acting as a Consultant, as well as undertaking other roles in the industry, and the City of London’s Livery Movement.   We wish Tony the best of success in these and his future endeavours, and we shall be supporting him in his Livery work.

CORDE at Three

CORDE Ltd recently celebrated its third birthday on 3rd August. Technical staff across the collaboration attended a barbecue event at one of our confederates’ London offices in the evening, marking the anniversary in that oldest of traditions, burgers and beers.

Steel Frame Gets PR Mention in NSC

Technical Director in our Oxford branch, Oliver Fyson, narrates at length on the intricate design of the steel frame for an Oxford University Department of Chemistry building, currently in design.

Virtual Cycle Race for Great Ormond Street Hospital

On 8th June Alex, Bradley and Megan from our London Office took part in a virtual cycle race for One Great Day, a charity event held to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and other Children’s health charities nationwide.

Our team cycled two miles on three static bikes at St Christopher’s Place, and at time of participation  Alex coming at second fastest male, Bradley fourth, and Megan first fastest female. To show your support for a fantastic cause and our team efforts please donate at  Virgin Money.

Romford Leisure Topping-out Ceremony

Hosted by Simon Cook of Willmott Dixon,  AKS Ward were invited to attend the formal topping-out ceremony for the £28M flagship Romford Ice Rink and Swimming Pool complex on the 17^th May 2017.
